Staging a Mid-Century Modern Home for Zombie House Flipping (S2 E1)

You may know that one of Orlando’s many claims to fame is being the central location of the show Zombie House Flipping (now airing season 3 on the FYI channel!). But did you know that our MHM Professional Staging crew is regularly featured on the show? When the Zombie team is ready to bring a renovated house to the market, they call in our staging professionals to turn that house into a home. The Zombie crew knows what any good realtor will tell you: staging a home is the best way to sell that home—fast.
In the first episode of season two, the Zombie House flippers tackle a mid-century modern home in Winter Park, FL. Most of the Zombie team couldn’t see the potential of the house at first, but the team’s project manager, Justin, saw a diamond in the ruff. The episode also features a look at the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap® Visualizer (which you can use to find our June color of the month, Oceanside!).
About the Zombie House

Mid-century modern is a style of design that was popular from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s. It was influenced by the Bauhaus movement and is characterized by sleek lines, organic and geometric forms, minimal ornamentation, and the juxtaposition of contrasting materials. The Zombie house featured in season two episode one is a shining example of this style of architecture. We’re so glad that Justin saw the potential in this house. It’s one of our favorite staging designs!
Staging the Zombie House
Naturally, a home that is representative of a very specific style calls for very specific furnishings. Our team brought in classic mid-century modern furniture and accents that honored the overall style of the home. The console table in the entryway is one of our favorite pieces.

The organic shape of the table legs and the combination of materials (wood, glass, ceramic) are characteristic of the mid-century modern style. Staging this console table in the entryway carried the character of the home from the outside in.
In the Living Room
The living room setup also features a charming table as a focal point. Notice the straight, peg legs and oval shape of the coffee table. These characteristics are reminiscent of the Space Age flair that mid-century modern design acquired in the late 1950s and 1960s. Its low profile helps to draw your eye down from the high, clerestory windows. The tall pastel vases strategically placed below the standard windows also help to create movement around the room.

In the Kitchen
In the kitchen, a black bowl full of bright, yellow lemons adds a striking contrast to the black and white cabinets. It also plays off of the yellow brass hardware and blondewood accents. Our team of stagers layered in additional accent pieces in the same color family. The light wood utensils and glass jars of pasta not only look great, but they also make the kitchen feel homey. That cozy feeling is what helps potential buyers envision themselves in the space.

On the Patio
Outside on the covered patio, the MHM Professional Staging team placed a bistro table and chairs. The Zombie crew loved the idea of creating a breakfast area outside. Bringing the inside outdoors is one of the many benefits of living in the sunshine state.

In the Home Office
Staging the spare bedroom as an office was a creative way to show buyers the potential of the space. Our team made the room look hip while still retaining the mid-century modern vibe.

In the Master Suite
Inside the master suite, the finishes and beautiful tiles commanded attention. All this room needed were a few small details to pull it all together. The artwork with flecks of gold connected to the gold hardware and a neutral striped towel added softness without distracting from the rest of the space.
