Staging a Hot House for Zombie House Flipping (S2 E8)
Our team at MHM Professional Staging has staged many amazing homes across Orlando over the years. Yet no home we have ever staged has gone through such a drastic transformation as the unassuming home featured in Zombie House Flipping season two episode eight.
When the squad toured the home the first time, they weren’t sure the renovation would make financial sense. The home had no AC, standing water in the bathroom, a jungle for a backyard, and even improperly built structural walls. Not to mention the indoor skate ramps built by local teens while the home sat vacant.
This particular renovation was a tough beast to tame for the Zombie team. Multiple water leaks threatened to derail the renovation at every turn, and the oppressive Orlando heat made the renovation difficult throughout. Justin and his Zombie team managed through work through three AC outages, the last of which occurred the day of the open house and was thankfully remedied by our own Megan Morris diagnosing the problem: a dirty air filter. Thank goodness MHM was there to save the open house from turning into a sweaty sauna!
About the Zombie House
The house from Zombie House Flipping season two episode eight sits on a large corner lot in the desirable Southern Oaks neighborhood. Immediately, the team knew they had to expand the footprint of this house to maximize their return and make up for the expensive renovation costs. We are so glad Duke redesigned the layout of this home and created a much more modern and inviting front facade.
Brand new, hand-scraped wood-look tile floor allowed our staging team to choose modern pieces that really highlight the brand new rooms and layout of the home.
Staging the Home
Staging this home was so much fun after all the work the Zombie team put in to bring it into the 21st century. With exquisite finishings in the bathrooms, kitchen, and exterior, it was only right that the team at MHM staging finish off the vibe the Zombie team started by staging this home to perfection.
In the Kitchen
Glossy blue modern cabinets pair perfectly with the neutral floor tile and the enormous island with built-in cooktop. We staged the kitchen with four oversized stools to turn that beautiful island into the centerpiece of the entire home. Small planters on either side of the sink bring the outside in and give this modern kitchen a touch of nature.
We continued the color palette in the furniture here with an eat-in kitchen dining set that showcases the versatility of this nook just off the kitchen. We complemented the seating with a vertical art piece that draws your attention to the vaulted ceilings in this home’s new addition.
In the Dining Room
The formal dining room features a standard dining table and parsons chairs. We chose to use an accent color for the chairs at the heads of the table to create more visual interest in this room. Round art prints emulate the decorative placemats and pair perfectly with the martini glasses.
In the Living Room
The Zombie team ended up creating two seating areas in this home, which gave our team at MHM Professional Staging the chance to showcase two separate uses for the space. The first space we created is a serene, modern sitting room with two sofas facing one another and a modern, wood and metal coffee table anchoring the center of the room.
The second room just adjacent to the sitting room is a more casual living space with a large sectional nestled below brand new, energy-efficient windows. Bright accent pillows and a stylish wine tray allow the buyer to imagine themselves spending an evening in this cozy and comfortable space.
In the Guest Bathroom
With all of the flooding problems now in the past, this clean and modern bathroom gives an absolute spa feel with the countertops and light green colors. We chose to amplify this vibe with matching green towels and accents that would make the buyer feel like they were on vacation.
In the Master Bedroom
Our design team chose art pieces and modern nightstands that matched nicely with the brand new carpet the Zombie team chose for the room. An upholstered bed frame and wooden sideboard complete the look of a soft and inviting master suite.
In the Master Bathroom
With high-end finishings adorned throughout the master bathroom, we choose accents that did not distract from the high-end nature of the materials in the room. A chrome framed art piece and grey and white towels blend seamlessly into the room. They allow the magnificent shower and vanity to command the buyer’s attention.
