Our Trending Color of the Month: Dynamo
At MHM Professional Staging, we love using color to turn an ordinary house into a buyer’s dream home. Each month, our designers share a color that inspires their designs. This month, our trending color is Dynamo (SW 6841). Dynamo is a raspberry hue that adds a punch of color to any space.
About the Hue
Dynamo is the perfect shade of pink for the daring homeowner. It makes a strong statement that can’t be replicated by pastels, and yet it’s not as alarming as hot pink. It pairs well with creamy neutrals, but it also looks fabulous with dark and moody tones.
Colors in the red spectrum are believed to stimulate your appetite. This makes a color like Dynamo a great choice for your kitchen or dining room. Reds are also known to be energizing, attention-getting colors. Be cautious when incorporating red into your home, as too much of a strong color like Dynamo can be overwhelming for your guests.

How and When to Use Dynamo
Using a strong raspberry color such as Dynamo can be intimidating. Bold colors are difficult to change and sometimes difficult to coordinate with other colors and patterns. While Dynamo is not a great color to use when staging your home to sell, it is a fantastic way to add personality to your forever home.
As an Accent Color
A raspberry hue like Dynamo makes for a fun accent color. Consider using it in bedding, pillows, throws, and curtains. It can even turn a functional element of your home (such as a radiator), into a stunning piece of art.
When used on the exterior of your home, Dynamo will make your house stand out from all the others on your street. This color works well on shutters and front doors, where it adds a Venice-inspired touch of whimsy.
On Furniture
If you’re feeling a little bolder, you can incorporate a color like Dynamo into your furniture. Some furniture will come with a raspberry color option. Wooden furniture can be sanded and painted. Raspberry looks especially luxe on tufted velvet pieces.
On Your Walls
You may be nervous about painting an entire wall or room with such a vibrant hue. After all, Dynamo is a strong color that will likely inspire strong reactions. If you’re new to working with color, then we recommend using a raspberry tone on just one wall rather than painting an entire room. On the other hand, if you have a firm grasp on color theory, then you can definitely find ways to make a raspberry room look incredibly chic.
Whether you’re painting with a strong color like Dynamo or a calming neutral, be sure to test large samples on different walls in your home. Look at the samples during different times of the day. As the lighting in your home changes throughout the day, the color will also appear to change. This will give you a true preview of what it will be like to live with the color on your walls.
Dynamo is a bold color that can cover up most other paint colors. However, if you are painting over another bold color, be sure to use a high-quality primer first. Otherwise, the existing color may change the look of the new color.
Coordinating Colors
Dynamo can hold its own in a bold color palette. It also has the ability to add personality to bright white spaces and lift darker colors.
Pair It with Creamy Neutrals
Sherwin-Williams recommends pairing Dynamo with creamy neutrals like Ibis White (SW 7000) and Shell White (SW 8917). This combination will allow Dynamo—and whatever, furniture, accents, or walls it covers—to take center stage.
Go for Complementary Contrast
You can also mix raspberry shades with a complementary lime green color, such as Stay in Lime (SW 9032), for a strong contrast. Dynamo looks great with shades of blue that lean towards green. This combination isn’t as dynamic as a raspberry and lime mixture, but it does create a more subtle contrast that may be more suitable for your taste.
Add Glam with Copper or Gold
Combining Dynamo with yellow-based metallics can make a room feel more glamorous. Also consider mixing in mirrored pieces, chandeliers, and a textured (or faux-textured) wall to achieve the full glam effect.
