Before & After: Easy DIY Bathroom Update

Most old bathrooms don’t need a full renovation to get a great makeover. One of our team members, Cory, transformed two outdated bathrooms in her home over a weekend and the results are amazing. She gave them both a fresh, contemporary look without replacing the cabinets or even ripping out the old wall tile.
Here’s the step-by-step process of how she did two DIY bathroom updates quickly and on a small budget.
DIY Bathroom Update
Supplies
- Painter’s tape
- Plastic sheet and/or masking paper
- Disposable dust mask
- Paint (for the walls)
- Biscuit Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit (for the wall tile)
- Tile flooring
- Hammer
- Chisel
- Paint brushes
- Paint tray
Step 1
They covered and taped off all the surfaces in the bathroom except the wall tile they wanted to change to protect it from paint dust. Also, they made sure to have plenty of ventilation because the fumes can be overwhelming and travel far. We recommend wearing a face mask to protect yourself while you are working.
Step 2
They used the paint/epoxy kit to refinish the old orange tile and give it a fresh look in white.
Step 3
Next, they changed the walls to gray to further freshen up the bathrooms and give them a more contemporary look.
Step 4
Finally, they chipped out the old floor tile and then replaced them with two new flooring options to finish off the renovation.
Step 5
They hung up a new shower curtain, wall art, and towels and placed some pretty decor on the countertops to give both bathrooms some warmth and style.
