Elements like the cabinets, countertops and backsplash create the beautiful bones of a kitchen but it’s the decor the makes it warm and inviting. Whether you are decorating your home to live in it or staging it to sell, the right kitchen decor can make it feel more like a home.
In the kitchen, you want to keep the decor simple and minimal. A little can pack a lot of character. We love to keep the surfaces as clean and open as possible, so we recommend using only a few pieces of decor to give it a bit of charm without making it look cluttered.
Here are our five favorite kitchen decor ideas that work well in any kitchen for both decorating and home staging.
Easy Decor Ideas for the Kitchen
What’s great about using cookbooks as kitchen decor is that they are just as functional as they are stylish. They are also incredibly versatile as you can find them in a variety of colors
and sizes to suit your needs. Stack them on their side (with something on top of them), stand them upright with a kitchen-themed bookend, or even leave one open on a book holder for home staging. The possibilities are nearly endless.
Cutting boards can be used for more than just their original purpose. Turn a wooden cutting board on its side and lean it up against the backsplash to add some texture to the space. You can then position another piece of decor in front of it to make it more dynamic, including any of the other decor ideas mentioned in this post.
Bowl of Fruit
Fill a pretty bowl (even just a simple white or glass one) with real or fake fruit for a classic look. We prefer choosing one type of fruit instead of mixing several together as the one pop of color has more of an impact and looks more streamlined. Choose the type of fruit based on the color scheme of your kitchen to make sure it is cohesive.
You can never go wrong with glass apothecary jars filled with something simple. The most popular fillings for a kitchen are pasta, beans, rice, or fruit, but you can get creative. We love the texture it brings to a kitchen. Go with neutral filling if you want to keep things understated or use them as an opportunity to incorporate a colorful accent.
Flowers are a great decorative accent to use anywhere in the home. Real or fake, flowers add a touch of life and elegance to your decor. For home staging, we usually stick with white flowers but occasionally opt for a colorful flower to add a pop of color to the space. If you are decorating yourself and not staging it, then choose whatever inspires you and compliments the rest of your decor.
