Why a Splash of Color is Essential in Home Staging

In home staging, it’s important to neutralize a home so that it appeals to the widest range of buyers possible. However, that doesn’t mean making it void of all charm and personality. A neutral palette is just the first step. Color plays an important role in the process of selling a home faster and for top dollar. The Importance of Staging with Accent Colors

Color stirs an emotional response

The main goals of home staging are to highlight a home’s best features and inspire an emotional connection from buyers. A key element in creating that powerful response is color. Color can evoke a myriad of emotions and send psychological cues to people, such as making them feel relaxed or energized or even stirring up their appetite.

A neutral palette as a base is important for home staging because buyers need to be able to picture their own furniture and décor in its place. If the décor is too taste-specific or colorful, it will distract most buyers who can’t see past it. However, incorporating well-placed accent colors will help bring each room to life and make it more appealing.

You can also use color to sway how a buyer feels. Blue will make a space feel more relaxing, orange is energizing, and red is power and eye-catching (not to mention makes you hungry).

It draws your eye to important features

Color is a great way to lead a buyer’s attention to specific areas and highlight strong features in the home. For example, if there is a beautiful chandelier hanging over the dining room table, place a colorful bouquet of flowers below it as the centerpiece to draw a buyer’s attention to it. Some colorful fruit in a bowl on the kitchen counter could highlight the beautiful tile backsplash. Pops of colorful books and décor could show off built-in bookcases in the living room.

It can also distract from not-so-appealing features, too. If there is an unattractive view out the living room window, hang a beautiful, colorful piece of art nearby to draw a buyer’s attention away from the window and over to the artwork.

Listing photos look more appealing

Nowadays, most buyers shop for homes online before deciding to view them in person. If the listing photos don’t grab their attention and appeal to them from the get-go, it’s easy to click away in less than a second and find another property within their parameters. That’s why it’s crucial that your home’s MLS photos look great.

Home staging helps your home look appealing both in person and in photos. Neutrals make the home look crisp and clean, and then a few pops of color bring it to life. The photos look even more engaging with some color in them.
