Summer Staging: Keep it Cool

When it comes to staging your home for the summer, there are several points to keep in mind. We have covered many of them elsewhere on this blog and in articles, including the importance of the outdoors and creating a “fresh” feeling in general. Today, we are going to talk about another crucial element of summer home staging—using the right colors.

Before we go any further, I need to throw in an important caveat: you should never go too far with any color palette when staging your home, no matter how great you think it may be. Why? Because you aren’t marketing your home to yourself—you’re marketing to the general public. You don’t know the tastes and preferences of the prospective buyers that will be visiting your home, so it is important to create a color scheme that is essentially neutral. This allows your prospective buyers to envision the home as they would decorate it, instead of taking the chance that they will like your color scheme.

That said, a tasteful and tactful approach to “summer colors” can go a long ways towards making your home feel fresh, welcoming, and comfortable. “Cool” colors, such as blue and green, can work well. Beach themes and colors work well, too. Use these colors to give your home the right touch, but without overdoing it. Table linens, throw pillows, decorative vases, place settings… all of these can be great places to incorporate color.

At the end of the day, your goal when it comes to staging your home is to create a welcoming and comfortable ambience. During the summer, your prospective buyers will be walking out of the heat, into your home. The right combination of colors will give your home a cool, refreshing feel—and that can make all the difference when it comes to “selling” a potential buyer on your home.
