On Saturday, July 18, Megan joined local nonprofit Paddle with a Purpose as they cleaned up Lake Ivanhoe. If you have ever visited the Lake Ivanhoe neighborhood near downtown Orlando, you know how vital the lake is to its community. Residents regularly kayak, paddleboard, and jet ski in the water. Meanwhile, picnics, beach volleyball, and jogging are popular pastimes on the shore.

Without looking too closely, you might see how much people enjoy the lake and miss the trash and debris collecting in the water and at the shoreline. Thankfully, Paddle with a Purpose takes note—and does something about it.

About Paddle with a Purpose

Paddle with a Purpose is a nonprofit that cleans up trash in local waterways. The organization started in South Florida and has since expanded to Orlando. So far, they have collected more than 42,000 pounds of trash. Wow!

The mission of Paddle with a Purpose is to engage people from all walks of life to volunteer in the conservation and cleanup of our waterways and to spread awareness about the pollution problem in our communities.

Bobby Figueroa and Anthony Cortes lead the nonprofit here in Orlando. Despite the ongoing pandemic, they have continued to prioritize the organization’s mission. We’re happy to do our part to help so that everyone can enjoy beautiful Lake Ivanhoe. Plus, after months of stressful lockdowns, we could all use a little R&R and fresh air.
