Staging a King Zombie for Zombie House Flipping (S2 E3)

Zombie House Flipping main title

On the A&E show Zombie House Flipping, every house is a “zombie” in need of serious rehabilitation. The house featured on season two episode three, however, was so dilapidated that the Zombie House Flipping crew decided to nickname it “King Zombie.” This house had a lot of challenges in store for the team. From Justin suffering a painful injury during demo to Rick the Reptile Guy wrangling a gator in an unfinished bedroom, there were surprises lurking around every corner!

In the end, we were happy to help the Zombie House Flipping crew put this old house far behind them. The MHM Professional Staging team helped transform the King Zombie into a gorgeous home that brought in a substantial profit.

About the Zombie House

The home featured in the third episode of Zombie House Flipping season two is located just north of Downtown Orlando, Florida. It has a two-car garage and sits on a canal that connects to nearby Lake Weston. Before the renovation, the rickety old front porch and overgrown palm trees made this house a scary sight. So the crew got to work trimming back the landscaping and rebuilding the porch. This gave the home curb appeal and made it safe and inviting for guests. Once the Zombie House Flipping crew had finished renovating the home inside and out, it was time for us to stage the former King Zombie.

Staging the King Zombie

When staging a home, it’s important to use the right colors; the best colors will appeal to as many people as possible. Thankfully, the Zombie team chose a perfect neutral paint color for the interior walls. This neutral base allowed the floor plan and the home itself to stand out as the main attraction.

Our staging team then chose a combination of masculine and feminine style décor to bring a sophisticated balance to the home. As you enter through the front door, you are greeted with elegant artwork, a functional console table, and a wide-open floor plan.

In the Dining Room

Closest to the entryway is the dining room. We defined this space with high-backed Parsons chairs and a modern wood dining table with glass inlay. White and tan decorative vases added a focal point to the room, while the dark, wooden dining table we selected for the Zombie House Flipping King Zombie home complemented the dark vinyl floors.

In the Kitchen

Beyond the dining room is the brand new kitchen, complete with leather finish granite countertops and an under-counter wine cooler. Stools with light wooden seats help tie in the light hues from the lantern tile backsplash.

Adding place settings to your bar top and table is just one way to create a vignette. Small details like a bowl of fruit, bottled water, and a jar of pasta are additional ways to create little décor moments that make a house feel like home.

In the Master Suite

For the master suite of this King Zombie, we gave the Zombie House Flipping team effortless, California chic. The artwork draws your eye to the gorgeous nightstands. The variegated tones in the wood create a warm, relaxed look for the room.

For the console table across from the bed, we selected minimal décor with just a pop of color. The overall vibe in this room is inviting and casual.

The master bathroom echoes the mood of the master bedroom. Warm brown tiles and rich cocoa accents created the perfect backdrop for a few subtle hints of green. The clear glass soap dispenser we chose ties into the frameless glass shower, making the bathroom feel as light and bright as possible.

In the Extra Large Living Room

The living room in this home is extra wide, which makes it more of a flex space than a formal living room. We’ve discussed before how a flex space can sell a home. They are versatile and a true bonus to any buyer. In the King Zombie, we helped the Zombie House Flipping crew make the most of their living room flex room by adding a transitional seating area.

Two chairs, angled just the right way, can transform unused floor space into a cozy sitting area for two. The addition of a calming, ocean painting nestled in between anchors this space.

The living room wouldn’t be complete without a comfortable place to sit and a coffee table. The artwork here creates visual balance with the large window.

In the Guest Bedrooms

The first guest bedroom is youthful yet serene. An image of the ocean ties into the water theme that can be found throughout the house. The touch of turquoise brings the neutral palette to life.

The second guest bedroom is a touch more sophisticated with darker accents. Matching bed frames and headboards helped the home feel cohesive in its styling.

In the Guest Bathroom

The guest bathroom had a slightly lighter version of the master bathroom tile and the same rich cocoa accents. Soft styling with a shower curtain and towels helped this house feel like a home.
