Staging a Sodo Home for Zombie House Flipping (S2 E6)

Over the years, MHM Professional Staging has staged homes in every part of Orlando. For season two episode six of the A&E show Zombie House Flipping, we had the opportunity to stage a home in one of our favorite neighborhoods, Sodo, south of Downtown Orlando. At first, the Zombie crew believed the patchwork roof on this house would be their biggest challenge. That was until they discovered a problem in the attic.

When Keith nearly broke his neck falling through the ceiling while checking out termite damage in the attic, the crew realized their zombie house had more problems than they thought. They later discovered that the entire kitchen floor and subfloor were also critically damaged by termites. And then, they discovered the worst part of all: there were still live termites in the home, and they had begun eating their way through the brand new hardwood floors. Yikes!

Thankfully, the Zombie team was able to tackle all of the challenges this zombie threw at them. The end result was a gorgeous like-new home. All it needed was the professional staging touch to bring the house to life. Our MHM Professional Staging team handled the staging and helped secure a full-price offer.

About the Zombie House

The house featured in Zombie House Flipping season two episode six is located in the Sodo neighborhood, within the highly-desirable Boone-Blankner school district. The house is surprisingly large with over 2,000 sf of living space. The large backyard and gorgeous new cedar accents are some of our favorite features. Although the Zombie team wasn’t originally planning to completely renovate the kitchen, we’re glad they did. The finished product looks great and drew many compliments during the open house.

Staging the Home

We loved staging the Sodo zombie for Zombie House Flipping season two episode six. The crew did a fantastic job choosing paint colors and unique flooring. Our stagers looked for ways to accent the warm, cedar tones throughout the house by supplementing them with yellows, warm grays, and blues.

In the Living Room

In the living room, we used creamy neutrals and gold accents to bring the living room to life. Adding soft blues in the throw pillows balanced out the warmer colors and provided a beautiful yet gentle contrast. The seating in the room was strategically arranged to create a more intimate and conversational atmosphere.

In the Kitchen

The blues we added to the living room were carried through into the kitchen via the two pieces of artwork we chose for the room. They helped anchor the kitchen visually and also balance out the dark glass backsplash. As always, we made sure to set the breakfast bar to create a vision of life in the home.

In the Dining Room

In the dining room, we featured more gray tones. Plush dining chairs invited buyers to have a seat and “test out” the dining room for themselves. A fully set table and beautiful orchid centerpiece made the whole look feel complete.

In the Master Bedroom

In the large master bedroom, we placed a large and cushy bed. Extra bedding makes the bed extra inviting, so we always try to include a few more pillows than you might expect. Using cool blue tones as the dominant color in this room made the space feel relaxed and calming. Just the way a master bedroom should feel.

The guest bedroom also features lots of bedding, but this time in more classic hues. Matching nightstands and accessories on either side of the bed brought symmetry to the room.

In the Bathroom

The bathroom in the former zombie pulled together the granite countertop from the kitchen with the neutrals and browns throughout the rest of the home. All this bathroom required were a few small accents, fresh towels, and a little greenery to make it feel like home.

In the Bonus Room

Bonus rooms are always our favorite spaces to stage in any home. It’s a space where you can really get creative when determining the function and purpose of the room. In this case, we felt that it made the most sense to stage the bonus room as a second living room. The size of the space allowed for multiple seating options, plants, and artwork. A large rug centered the space and helped dampen sound. Other options for this room could include a game room, an additional bedroom, a home theater, or a large office.

In the Home Office

The house on Zombie House Flipping season two episode six was surprisingly large inside. After staging the first two bedrooms and the bonus room, we decided that a home office would be the perfect way to show the versatility of the many rooms in this house. In the office, we chose fun accent pieces that added a touch of personality and picked up on the gold highlights from the living room.
