While metallic accents have become more popular recently, they are classic throughout the decades. Follow these tips on choosing a metallic accent for your home to help you make the right choice that you’ll love for years to come.

How to Choose a Metallic Accent for Your Home

Gold

Gold is the most glamorous of all the metals. When you think of luxury, gold often comes to mind. It’s seen a resurgence in popularity recently but it has never truly gone out of style, as it’s a classic through and through. If you want to keep things warm while also adding a touch of sheen, gold a great choice for that. There are many different tones of gold, though, from very yellow to the more subdued, so make sure you pick one that suits your décor and stick with it.

Rose Gold

Rose gold has become a big trend in everything from fashion and décor to technology, probably because it is the shiny version of blush or “millennial” pink, a trending color. This version of gold has a pink hue to it that makes it softer and more feminine. It’s perfect for a bedroom or bathroom, but keep in mind that it isn’t very gender-neutral.

Copper

Copper (or bronze) is a rich version of gold with an orange tint to it. Because of its deep pigment, it makes a big statement in a space. It’s perfect if you want an eye-catching accent with a touch of sheen. Copper was popular in the 1800s so it has a very vintage feel to it. Depending on how polished it is, it can look casual or glamorous, making it a good gender-neutral choice for a metal.

Silver

Silver can always be counted on to bring a lovely clean, luxurious look to a space. Being that it is so light and reflective, any silver accents also help make a space feel larger by reflecting light. Silver has a cool tone to it, but you can create an interesting look by pairing it with a contrasting color and texture, such as reclaimed wood. For an icier look, pair it with other cool tones such as white, gray, and blue.

A mixture

Contrary to popular belief, metallic accents can be mixed together in the same room without them clashing. Gold and silver, for example, can look stunning when paired together. The trick is to pull them together with complementing colors and décor. We don’t recommend mixing more than two types of metals, but rules are made to be broken so do what feels right to you!
