Fall Porch Decorating Tips
One of the most important elements for perfect fall décor is the color scheme. The changing of leaves, seasonal foliage, and vegetation all contribute to the beauty of fall. Rich, warm colors help capture the essence of the season. To fit them to your style, it’s all in how you use them.
We wanted a clean farmhouse look, so the white of the home’s siding, ceiling, and swing helped accomplish that. Even if your home isn’t white, you can use large white elements like furniture, cushions, or curtains. We also placed a white runner and white pumpkins on the table to bring contrast to the wood.
We then layered in fall colors like burnt orange, deep red, chocolate brown, and mustard. To add a rustic touch, wood elements like the table and twigs around the light fixture do the trick.
Lighting is crucial to creating the right ambiance. With fall décor, you want it to feel comfortable and cozy. Candles are perfect for this. We used several candles in the décor not only to create a beautiful aesthetic during the day, but to also provide a lovely glow at night.
We also adorned the chandelier with twigs and fall leaves to create an eye-catching focal point that captures the season. This is very easy to recreate with any chandelier by wrapping it with twigs to create a nest-like look and accenting it with some orange leaves for a pop of color.
If your porch has a dining table or coffee table, the centerpiece is an important feature for bringing character to the space. We had this incredible, long farmhouse table to work with, so we anchored the centerpiece with a white runner and another plaid runner layered over it at an angle to give it a cozy feel. Then, we brought in seasonal foliage, pumpkins, and candles to create a beautiful, outdoorsy vignette.
To soften the swing, we added an orange throw and a couple of accent pillows, which also provide a pop of color. The fabric table runners soften the wood and rustic textures on the table, while the shiny pumpkins bring a touch of elegance. With fall, you want a nice balance of comfort with rough, rustic textures.
As we mentioned, one of the most captivating aspects of fall is the changing foliage. With that in mind, we used a lot of leaves, flowers, and greenery to adorn the porch. By switching up the type of foliage, you can keep things interesting yet cohesive. There are sunflowers on the table, orange leaves on the chandelier, and a variety of cattails and other wild foliage gathered in a pot for an accent.
